Writing Center Visual Displays

The contents of this section are Powerpoint copies of learning tools created for The University of Houston Downtown during my internship working for UHD Writing Center.
The Products
  • Passive verses Active Voice (6 slides) – I used visuals consisting of flying and sitting ducks to demonstrate the difference between active and passive subjects from explanations found in research.

  • Numbers in Print (4 slides) – A moving graphic was used to ad interest to what was a mostly written explanation of points.  A contrasting use of color text helped emphasis points and build a more visually interesting presentation.

  • Arguing Greek (4 slides) – This section was all visual presentation to explain Greek argument.  Pictorial graphics were and representations to trigger understanding of pathos, logos and ethos concepts.

  • Punctuation Problems (8 slides) – This section also used a moving graphic to tie the presentation together and contrasting text colors to emphasis points and add interest. Research from several grammar sources was used to choose the most common comma errors with examples of each provided.  ‘This not That’ formatting was used to contrast mistakes from correct usage.

  • Literary Points of View (4 slides) – I used a series of eye catching graphics placed in each slide to visually demonstrate differing points of view as well as explain them.

  • Writing in Drafts (5 slides) – Initially, this was supposed to be a large part of the Freshman Primer document.  Instead, it was made into a Powerpoint explaining a four draft series of steps and reasons why early draft efforts aren’t complete enough to fulfill college writing expectations.

This link, Writing Center Visuals, will lead to one document containing all presentations.
